From the viewing terrace the panorama spans around 200 peaks as far as Mont Blanc and into the Black Forest. In the 1960s the hard-to-reach summit was opened up by a boldly routed cableway that leads from Stechelberg, by way of the picturesque mountain villages of Gimmelwald and M\u00fcrren, up into the high-alpine world. In the process a revolving restaurant was built on the summit, slowly turning on its own axis and giving guests a complete all-round view over the Bernese Alps.<\/p>\n<p>The Schilthorn became world-famous in 1969, when the James Bond film \u201cOn Her Majesty's Secret Service\u201d was shot here. The film production helped to complete the then unfinished summit building, and in return the revolving restaurant was given the name Piz Gloria, under which it served in the film as the villain's hideout.
