Practical tips for a mountain hike with your dog

Heat: Start early in midsummer; dogs overheat quickly, plan for shade and breaks.

Paws: Scree, via ferratas and hot rock strain the pads , paw protection and checks help.

Water: Always carry enough water and a collapsible bowl, not every stream is clean.

Ticks: Check after the hike, pack tick tweezers/hooks.

Wildlife: Keep on a leash , do not disturb wildlife, grazing livestock (mother cows!) or ground-nesting birds.
