Set on a hillside high above Berchtesgaden, the Camping-Resort Allweglehen is one of the region's best-known sites, above all for the wide view of the Watzmann and Untersberg from many pitches.

Who the campsite suits

  • Open year-round; in winter also a base for ski tours and winter hiking.
  • Terraced pitches, sanitary area, dining and a wellness offering on site.
  • A good base for day trips to the Königssee, into the Klausbachtal and onto the local peaks.

Booking tip

In peak season (summer holidays, public holidays) the panoramic pitches are booked out early; booking in good time pays off. Comparison and review portals for campsites help in planning the whole Alpine route.

Note: the Alpentreff team adds current availability and prices; the camping booking link will follow here later.

Background & History

The Allweglehen Camping Resort lies above Berchtesgaden on a sunny mountain slope with a wide view of the striking Watzmann and the surrounding mountain world. The name points to the rural past of the place, for a “Lehen”, a fief, denoted in the old law a farm that was left to the holder for use without fully belonging to him. From such a traditional mountain farm developed over the years today's campsite, which opens up the spectacular elevated setting of the Berchtesgaden region for those seeking recreation, while preserving the link to the old history of the farm.

The Berchtesgaden region itself looks back on an eventful history: for centuries the area was ruled by an ecclesiastical prince-provostry, whose wealth rested above all on the white gold, the salt, which was extracted in the famous and still-operating salt mine. Framed by mighty limestone massifs such as the Watzmann, the Hochkalter and the legend-shrouded Untersberg, the landscape today belongs to the Berchtesgaden National Park, the only Alpine national park in Germany. Whoever looks out over the valley from the height of the Allweglehen has this impressive mountain backdrop, around which numerous old legends are woven, directly before their eyes and senses why crowned heads and artists have always praised this land as one of the most beautiful corners of the Alps.
